Accrediation Status
The goal of the school accreditation process is to document the efforts of
schools and districts to articulate and assess a challenging Common Core of
Knowledge and Skills, and to ensure that all students have the opportunity to
learn and master that Common Core.

The obligation of the Accreditation unit and the state accreditation teams are
to ensure that district and school efforts are proceeding in accordance with
the rules and regulations, and to provide technical assistance where feasible
to facilitate these efforts.
School accreditation rules and regulations are promulgated pursuant to the
Wyoming Education Code of 1969 (as amended) WS 21-2-304(b)(i). All public
school districts, and the schools and personnel within those districts, must
comply with applicable Wyoming State Board of Education policies and
regulations.
Each fall all districts and schools in Wyoming must submit to the Wyoming
Department of Education a packet containing information related to
accreditation. On-site visits occur every fifth year and require additional
information prior to the visit. A district that is to be visited scores itself
before the visit on an Accreditation Scoring Guide that uses rubrics for each
of the components for accreditation. The scoring guide covers eight components
and each is scored in the areas of approach, deployment, and results. A
structured desk audit requests specific information and samples for the eight
accreditation components. The site team reviews and summarizes the desk
audit/scoring guide before the visit and provides all team members with
information so as to verify the district's score during the actual visit.
A district is recommended for full accreditation to the State Board of Education
when the accreditation team's scores on the scoring guide are at or above the
established qualifying level in each section on each component. When a score
falls below the qualifying level, the district receives a corrective action and
is required to submit a corrective action plan to the Department within 30
days. Districts that receive a corrective action(s) work with a mentor until
the corrective action(s) have been satisfactorily completed. Districts with
minimal corrective actions may receive a recommendation for full accreditation
if they develop their corrective action plans within the timelines required.
